Così fan tutte - June 2006

Mozart's Così fan tutte is a comic but heartfelt exploration of human relationships, sexual politics and the gap between idealism and reality. The opera is set in Naples, late 18th century. It opens in a tavern where Ferrando and Guglielmo, two idealistic young soldiers, bet their older, more cynical friend Don Alfonso, that their girlfriends, Dorabella and Fiordiligi could never be unfaithful. Don Alfonso has a day to prove them wrong with the help of the ladies' wily maid Despina. Will the ladies give in? Who will win the bet? And what will it all prove?
